Cashing Checks
The Cashier's Department (505-277-4748) University Advisement and Enrichment Center, will cash student's checks of up to $50 per day. Picture I.D. is required. The NM Educator's Federal Credit Union in the SUB will open student accounts.


Employment
The Student Employment Office (505-277-3511), Mesa Vista Hall north.  This office provides information for on and off-campus jobs through the state and federal work-study programs.
Available positions are posted on the Student Employment homepage on the web. The minimum salary is $6.25 per hour, and students may work up to 30 hours per week. Students must have a complete financial aid file in order to receive a workstudy award. The office also has listings of non-work-study positions. Students do not have to apply for financial aid to be considered for on-campus non-work-study positions, however, they must be enrolled in a degree-granting college.


Grants & Loans
Emergency/Short-Term Loans are available through Financial Aid Office (505-277-8900) and the Dean of Students Office (277-3361).

This office assists students with federal, state and University-funded programs. To be considered for financial aid, students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). UNM’s priority application date is March 1. By completing the FAFSA, students will receive consideration for all need-based programs in which UNM participates, including: Pell Grants; Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants; Work Study; Perkins Loans; Nursing Loans; Direct Loans; State Student Incentive Grants; Loans for Service.


Scholarships

UNM offers many scholarships for outstanding students. Scholarships are available through many department and college offices and through the Scholarship Office. Most are awarded for academic merit, but some consider financial need. Many private and outside organizations also offer scholarships.
