The program strives to provide an environment which is sensitive to the culture and history of African
Americans and help African American students achieve their educational goals. The staff is available to support
the personal, academic, educational and social development of students. Whether it is tutorial assistance, general
academic advising, resolving financial aid issues, finding part-time employment, securing internships and
volunteer opportunities, or connecting students with mentorships, they want to support a successful UNM
experience. All students are welcomed and encouraged to come by the Center.

American Indian Student Services (277-6343) www.unm.edu/~aiss, Mesa Vista Hall 1119.
The program's goal is to increase and assist American Indian students enrolled at UNM and to graduate in their
field of interest. An academic advisor is available to outline programs of study as well as aiding in the solution
of academic advisement concerns or problems. American Indian students are also provided assistance in applying
for admission, financial aid, tribal scholarships and grants, and in-state tuition rates. The office also provides
information of the various Tribal scholarships and of any changes made in policies and procedures.
Information of special grants, tutorial assistance, mental health counseling, child care and housing is also available.
Other workshops include topics in local and national American Indian affairs. Study areas are available
along with the use of typewriters, computers and other resource materials.

El Centro de la Raza (277-5020) www.unm.edu/~elcentro, Mesa Vista Hall 1153.
El Centro de la Raza offers many culture-specific programs, and educates the campus community on the
diverse issues affecting Raza students attending or wishing to attend UNM. Support includes peer mentoring,
academic support, scholarships, career advisement and employment opportunities. El Centro also plans several
special events and cultural programs. Facilities include a computer pod and library. All students are welcome.

International Programs & Services (277-4032) www.unm.edu/oips, Mesa Vista Hall 2111.
Provides advising and student services for international students and scholars, and offers study abroad opportunities
in many countries for US students. Activities include a weekly social hour to bring U.S. and international
students together in an informal social setting. The social hour sometimes features speakers, entertainment and
cultural presentations. An international festival is held in the fall to highlight cultures.

Women's Resource Center (277-3716) http://www.unm.edu/~women/, Mesa Vista Hall 1160.
The WRC seeks to promote understanding and mutual respect among women and men to achieve individual
and social change as well as to create a positive campus environment. The WRC provides a family-friendly
computer pod, a lending library, a video library, peer support groups, film series, brown bag information presentations,
a newsletter, a website, special events, conferences and workshops. Students can also receive many
services including advocacy, crisis intervention, advisement, information and referrals. Programs and services
focus on gender issues and raising awareness about issues that affect women. Above all, the WRC serves as a
safe space on campus where everyone is always welcome.
